6-day cultural tour
As fate willed world famous Russian writer Boris Pasternak, the
author of novel "Dr. Zhivago" and Nobel Prize winner for literature,
almost half a year spent in Perm region in 1916 . He worked as a clerk for
chemical plants in the north of the region, in the village of Vsevolodo-Vilva.
He stayed in the house of plants manager Zbarsky. While living in
Ural he used to come to Perm on official matters quite a few times and stayed
here for several days. He learnt the city in every detail. In the novel we
can see many places, in which we can recognize places from Perm region such
as Perm, which is a prototype of Juryatin; the village of Vsevolodo-Vilva,
which is a prototype of Varykino. For those who are interested in works
of Boris Pasternak and want to see places portrayed in the novel “Dr.
Zhivago”,

Tour program, day-to-day
Day 1
Arrival to Moscow. Leaving luggage in a cloak-room. A walking tour (combined with public transport) to places, connected with life of Boris Pasternak, and to places, described in his novel “Dr. Zhivago”. Lunch. Departure to Perm by train.
Day 2
On a train. Arrival to Perm in the evening. Transfer to hotel. Overnight stay in hotel, BB.
Day 3
Breakfast. A walking tour through the city centre. Among places of visit are Cathedral, Kama river embankment, House of Gribushin, Opera House, all mentioned in the novel. Visit to library building, described in a novel as a place of first meeting of Lara and Jury.
Lunch in a restaurant “Dr. Zhivago”. Free time. (Optional. Visit to musical “Dr. Zhivago”). Overnight stay in hotel, BB.
Day 4
Early breakfast. Bus tour to the north of the Perm region: Perm – Chusovoy – Kizel - Vsevolodo-Vilva – Berezniki (270 km). These are the places where Pasternak lived in 1916 and which are mentioned in the novel “Dr. Zhivago”. On the way a visit to Museum of political repressions “Perm 36”, the only remaining camp of the former Soviet GULAG-archipelago. Lunch. A walking tour in Vsevolodo-Vilva, during which you will see the reconstructed house where Pasternak stayed (and where once stayed another famous Russian writer Anton Chekhov). You will also recognize in surrounding landscapes one of the main places of the novel, the village of Varykino.
Dinner. Transfer to Berezniki. Overnight stay in hotel, BB.
Day 5
Breakfast. Tour in the town of Berezniki, once called by Pasternak “Industrial Belgium”. Lunch. Transfer to the town of Usolje. Image of Usolje in the prose of Pasternak. Visit to historical and architectural complex “Stroganovskije palaty”. Transfer to Perm. Overnight stay in hotel, BB.
Day 6
Breakfast. Transfer to airport. Flight to Moscow early in the morning. Onward flight/optional programme.
